Switched by Amanda Hocking
4 out of 5 stars
Quick Review:
When Wendy Everly was
six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to
kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy finds out her
mother might've been telling the truth. With the help of Finn Holmes,
Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - and it's one
she's not sure if she wants to be a part of.
What I Thought:
The thing I liked most about this book was its plot. Most fictional books like this are about fairies or elves or magic. But "Switched" is about something else. (I will not tell you, you have to read it and find out) I also liked the care that was in the family in this book. Normally older siblings are "too cool" or "too busy" to actually talk with their younger siblings, whereas in this novel, family meant everything to Wendy. The action didn't start up until the end :( but because this was the the first and "introductory" novel, I hope the action and suspense picks up in the next book of the series, "Torn".
This was a really good book and I would definitely recommend you reading it.
I picked this up at the library on a whim, and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to read it or not. But I will definitely try it, because Amanda Hocking apparently is like the cornerstone of success in the self-publishing world.

What did you think of the sequels? I was rather unimpressed with the trilogy (maybe because I read them with pretty high expectations). I just never found myself caring about the characters
ReplyDeleteI really loved them- and so did my friends. I've seen very different reviews of them, it's a love-it or hate-it series. :)
DeleteThese have been on my reading list for awhile, and I'm not sure what to think of them. I too have seen varying reviews about these books, but I think the premise sounds interesting. I'm not a huge fan of action that doesn't start until the end, but I think I'll try to actually put some effort in getting a copy of these in the near future.
ReplyDeleteThe books are all on bargain price on Amazon right now. I believe they are four dollars a piece. ;)
