Divergent

Divergent: Book 1 of the Divergent Series
By: Veronica Roth
5 out of 5 Stars
Quick Overview:
When Beatrice Prior turns 16, she must make a life changing decision between 5 factions. These factions are Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family, or being who she really is. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone- even herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

What I Thought:
Wow. This was a great book. It has the perfect amount of action and suspense. It keeps you on the edge of your seat! I prefer more action than romance, so this book is great for all you adventure lovers. Tris and Four are characters so in depth that if you put the book down it screams at you to find out more. I LOVED this book!!
Note: There is a part in Divergent that some may find questionable.

(This is a very late review, as this book came out a while back, however I am planning to do an Insurgent review. Insurgent came out on May 1st.)

  1. Divergent was one of my top YA books released in 2011. (Along with Anna Dressed in Blood) So, I was really looking forward to Insurgent. I think that may be part of the reason why I was disappointed with Insurgent- maybe I was expecting different things to happen. Although I had other reasons for being disappointed in Insurgent, I think expectations were a big factor. I noticed, too, that a lot of people who had been eagerly anticipating each installment of The Hunger Games trilogy ended up hating or disliking how it ended. I didn't even really hear about The Hunger Games trilogy until the final book was released. When I did start on the trilogy, I read the books all the way through. So, I didn't spend a year or more thinking about how this or that story arc was going to play out. In a way, I wish I could have just put on the big girl pants and waited until the whole Divergent trilogy was released and read them all at once.
