You Look Different in Real Life
For the rest of the world, the movies are entertainment. For Justine, they're real life.

The premise was simple: five kids, just living their lives. There'd be a new movie about them every five years, starting in kindergarten. But no one could have predicted what the cameras would capture. And no one could have predicted that Justine would be the star.

Now sixteen, Justine doesn't feel like a star anymore. In fact, when she hears the crew has gotten the green light to film Five at Sixteen, all she feels is dread. The kids who shared the same table in kindergarten have become teenagers who hardly know one another. And Justine, who was so funny and edgy in the first two movies, feels like a disappointment.

But these teens have a bond that goes deeper than what's on film. They've all shared the painful details of their lives with countless viewers. They all know how it feels to have fans as well as friends. So when this latest movie gives them the chance to reunite, Justine and her costars are going to take it. Because sometimes, the only way to see yourself is through someone else's eyes.

You Look Different In Real Life by Jennifer Castle is about 5 kids who have a new movie made about them every five years. But the children who sat at the same table in kindergarten have grown into teens that don't even talk to each other. However, while filming the third movie, 5 at 16, a trip to a mountain cabin changes everything.
The book takes place from Justine, the accidental star's, point of view. This movie is different for her, though. While everything she said was funny or touching in 5 at 11, now she simply feels like a boring teenager with nothing exciting to talk about.
I really loved the way the film made five completely different people interact. There is Nate, a swimmer, whose parents own a farm, Rory, Justine's previous friend, who is autistic, Felix, who always has more going on in his life than meets the eye, and Keira, who's mom disappeared suddenly and without a trace during the second film.
You Look Different In Real Life was a quick read. I started and finished it over the course of about a four hour airplane ride, and it kept me entertained, but wasn't amazing. I never felt a large connection between myself and any of the characters and I wasn't fond of Justine at all. She treated all of her friends and family terribly and never gave anyone a chance until the very end.
Overall, it was a quick read that was fun to follow, but wasn't something that I'll mark as memorable and re-read. I give You Look Different In Real Life 3 out of 5 stars.
